Silk Tree Gardens

Silk Tree Gardens offers an exceptional variety of ornamental, nut, fruit, and deciduous trees, as well as, evergreens. The TREE NURSERY STOCK page provides a complete list of trees and is updated on a regular basis.  Welcome, and thank you for browsing the website.

Trees are available for purchase by the local gardening community and can also be shipped nationally.  Local customers can pick-up trees onsite in Bridgeport.  Bulk orders of trees are delivered locally with no extra charge.  Silk Tree Gardens is also a source of trees for private forestry groups and municipal, State, and Federal departments.

MIMOSA TREES

Our Connecticut tree nursery features the pink flowering mimosa or

silk tree (Albizia julibrissin).

Trees with traditional green foliage and pink flowers are available. From season to season, there is a limited quantity of trees with dark or chocolate colored foliage.  A dwarf variety of the pink flowering mimosa tree is sometimes available.

The stunning and popular ornamental mimosa trees are great, not only in the garden (Zones 6-9), but they can also be placed in a large planter for a patio or deck display.

TREES WITH NOTABLE AMERICAN HISTORY

Yellow Poplar trees (Liriodendron tulipifera) bloom in

Connecticut in May and June.  The tulip tree was grown

and cultivated by General George Washington.

Today, this tree with dramatic and colorful flowers,

is often overlooked as a landscaping tree with

stunning potential.  Silk Tree Gardens

grows both Yellow and Black Poplar trees.

AMERICAN YELLOWWOOD TREE

The Yellowwood tree is spectacular when it blooms every

5-7 years.  It is rare, difficult to find in the United States.

This rare tree was originally identified by the famous French

botanist Andre Michaux (http://www.michaux.org/michaux.htm)

in the 18th Century on his botanical exploration of the central

and Southeastern United States.  Some of the original tree seeds

were planted in Tuileries, France in the 18th and 19th Centuries.

Original Yellowwood trees are still in that area of France.

Andre Michaux is also responsible for the introduction of

the Mimosa or Silk Tree to the United States in the 18th Century

The Yellowwood is being cultivated at Silk Tree Gardens

tree nursery.
